Postdoctoral fellows

Each year, about 80 postdoctoral fellows, over half of whom are from overseas, join the laboratories of the Institut Curie. They are funded in various ways: international bodies (Human Frontiers, EMBO…), charities (ARC, LNCC..), and/or teams in specific programs and international networks.

Since 1997, the Institut Curie has run a unique program for young foreign postdoctoral fellows who wish to pursue their research in one of the Research Center laboratories. Funding is provided in the form of a salary, for a maximum of one year, to allow those selected (on the basis of their scientific achievements) to rapidly become part of a laboratory and to pursue research there while seeking funding for an extension of their stay beyond one year. They have the opportunity therefore to participate actively in the scientific life of the Institut Curie for several years.

The postdoctoral fellows, like the students and PhD students, participate in the training program set up by the Training Unit, which is open to their suggestions. They are encouraged to advise PhD students and to chair scientific discussions, so that they themselves acquire the skills needed to supervise and guide others in research.
Their training in our laboratories in an international environment allows them to establish contacts with senior scientists and to lay the groundwork for varied careers in the academic world or industry.
